Bush economy ravages Ohio

Hi all, this is my first diary. Normally, I would never link to the Clevleand Plain Dealer (a truly atrocious newspaper), but they had a very timely article today:
Number of poor Ohioans has soared, survey finds
...and we still ended up being a red state... sad, really. Go to the extended entry for more analysis.
Although a lot of that was a result of homophobia (we passed one of the most restrictive anti gay marriage ammendments), I don't think it will change much in 2006. Even most of the "blue" voters in Akron and Canton (even Youngstown), would have rather have voted "red" if they had their druthers (and jobs). I have always wondered why poor people tend to vote republican, and the only answer I can come up with is this that since the Republicans endorse the idea of grace through suffering, not only does that play into their lives, but the republican party also allows these voters to "stick it to others" so that others can suffer just like them. It all boils down to resentment and vindictivenessa. Your thoughts?
I really hope that Dean adds Ohio to his next 4 "states we can take back". If there was any semblance of a Democratic Party here, we could really make a run with all the corruption and economic hardship that is going on.
