How did the concept of protecting the United States economy and national interest end up being a dirty word?

In the year 2007,  Sex discrimination is alive and well in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The inventor of the world wide web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has called for an end to the "stupid" male geek culture that disregards the work of capable female engineers, and puts others off entering the profession

A Squeak about Trade?

crossposted at NoSlaves.com  blog

What a surprise, when the nation is about to go over a cliff a little squeak comes from The Federal Reserve chairman.  Ben S. Bernanke, said today that a global "savings glut" has helped keep interest rates low, but he warned that major trade imbalances between emerging and industrial nations may prove "counterproductive" to the global economy over time.  That's one roar in full battle gear to fight economic Armageddon huh?

As Ohio Goes, So Goes the Nation....as in Offshored to India

Sat Aug 18, 2007 at 05:56:33 PM PDT

All hail!  All sing praises of glory, raise ye voices in jubilation!
Some of those millions of jobs offshore outsourced to India are returning!!!!

From Fortune, India Conglomerate TATA is bringing jobs to Ohio.

Reno, Ohio, as the type of place that would be hit hardest by outsourcing - a small American town losing out to the invisible hand shifting jobs to places like Bangalore and Guangzhou. Instead, outsourcing is bringing the jobs to Reno

O Rly?  Is that REALLY what TATA is doing?

According to the Enquirer

Gov. Ted Strickland met with local officials a couple weeks ago to brief them on the project, which would include transferring 300 jobs here and creating 700 new jobs

How To Not Hire An American - MUST SEE VIDEO

Mon Jun 18, 2007 at 10:47:53 AM PDT

Our goal is clearly NOT TO FIND a qualified and interested U.S. worker.

It's on video, believe it or not, and even presented as a selling point to peddle their services by Cohen & Grigsby Law Firm.  That's right, this group of attorneys put an entire seminar on how to screw over the American worker on YouTube. Globalization versus Free Trade

Thu Jun 14, 2007 at 01:55:16 PM PDT

The House Committee on Science and Technology, very much interested in the United States not losing US economic competitiveness and jobs,  held hearings on The Globalization of R&D and Innovation on June 12, 2007.

Recently, Dr. Blinder, Princeton Economist,  concluded

nearly all (35 of 39) STEM occupations are offshorable.

Ralph Gomory, President of the Sloan Foundation, testified:

In this new era of globalization the interests of companies and countries have diverged. In contrast with the past, what is good for America’s global corporations is no longer necessarily good for the American people.

Well, shift my paradigm....

Americans Betrayed Once Again: H-1B, offshore outsourcing

Thu May 31, 2007 at 02:21:43 PM PDT

Yesterday we had an incredible betrayal of the Professional workforce by Maria Cantwell (D-WA).  She has introduced S.Admt 1249 which will absolutely decimate Americans in STEM careers as well as target most middle class careers for labor arbitrage.  Other Corporate representatives are Cornyn, Leahy and Hatch.

The Programmers Guild has already issued a damning report on what this amendment would do. This post is a must read.

With so many labor organizations and facts screaming in the face of Congress on how middle class jobs are being targeted for offshore outsourcing and labor arbitrage, why do our representatives seem hell bent on selling out working America?

Pascrell Defends the American Dream & Compete America opposes $15,000 scholarship!

Fri May 25, 2007 at 11:44:00 AM PDT

Yesterday Senator Bernie Sanders managed to get an amendment accepted that takes a 3,500 fee, a minuscule drop in the bucket of total labor arbitrage profits from using cheap labor, to fund scholarships for Americans to go to college.

Yet, Corporations, who claim we need to invest in America whine that they shouldn't have to give back to America while they ship our jobs offshore.

Compete America, a Cheap Labor lobbyist group, blasted the Sanders amendment claiming it is:

an outrageous and onerous tax increase on our nation's most innovative companies, and could make the H-1B program cost-prohibitive, especially for smaller businesses.

H-1B, Labor, Sen. Bernie Sanders Introduces Amendment to Strengthen America!

Thu May 24, 2007 at 11:19:47 AM PDT

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is going to introduce an amendment to S.1348, the Comprehensive Immigration bill, that stands up for American workers.

The The American Competitiveness Scholarship Program amendment would help so many Americans in attending college and also assist those being displaced by the Corporate Cheap Labor Lobby.
